Prehistory to the Middle Ages
About Archaeological Museum of Tirana
The National Archaeological Museum, on Mother Teresa Square, was the first museum to open in Albania after the Second World War, in 1948. It shares a building with the Institute of Archaeology and shows finds from prehistory through Illyrian, Greek and Roman times to the Middle Ages: jewellery, Roman statues and great clay jars from the country’s many excavations. Entry is a few hundred lek. Allow an hour; it is quiet and well worth it before visiting Durrës or Butrint.
