About Ismail Kadare House Museum

Ismail Kadare, Albania’s most famous writer, lived and wrote many of his books in a fourth-floor flat in an unpainted communist-era block a few metres behind the Palace of Culture and the Tirana International Hotel. In 2019 the apartment opened as a museum, with his study, books and personal objects as he left them; enter from the back of the building and look for the K sign. Kadare died in July 2024, and a visit is a quiet, moving introduction to his work. Read The General of the Dead Army first.
