The National Historical Museum, opened in 1981 with its great mosaic “The Albanians” above the entrance, overlooks Skanderbeg Square. Its pavilions cover antiquity, the Middle Ages, Skanderbeg, independence, icons, the Second World War, communist terror and Mother Teresa. The museum is closed for a major renovation, with reopening reported for around 2028; the 400-square-metre mosaic can still be seen from the square. Check the museum’s website for news, and visit Bunk’Art 2 and the House of Leaves meanwhile.
