The Puppet Theatre was founded in 1950 by a group of professional actors and has stayed in the same building beside Skanderbeg Square ever since; before the Second World War the building served as the Albanian Parliament. During communism it was the only puppet theatre in the country, and it is still the favourite: it stages around 500 performances a year with string puppets, dolls, masks, mime and actors. Weekend tickets are hard to find, so book early if you are travelling with children.
Why it's on our list
- Founded 1950
- Shows for children
