About National Library of Albania

The National Library of Albania was founded in 1920 and inaugurated on 10 December 1922. Today it occupies part of the Palace of Culture on Skanderbeg Square, the building begun in 1959 with a foundation stone laid by Nikita Khrushchev and finished in 1963, which it shares with the National Theatre of Opera and Ballet. Researchers use its reading rooms, and it hosts occasional exhibitions of rare books and manuscripts. For visitors, it is mainly a landmark of the square; check the website for exhibitions.
