The Skanderbeg Museum, opened in 1982 inside Krujë Castle, tells the life and battles of Gjergj Kastrioti Skanderbeg, the 15th-century national hero who held off the Ottomans for a quarter of a century. Designed by Pirro Vaso and Pranvera Hoxha in the style of a medieval stone tower, it displays weapons, paintings, documents, replicas of his helmet and sword, and large murals. Allow an hour; it explains why Albanians are so proud of him.
