About Site of Witness and Memory
The Site of Witness and Memory in Shkodër occupies a building used by the communist secret police as a prison and interrogation centre. Its cells, photographs, documents and testimonies record the people persecuted in Shkodër during the communist period, many of them Catholic clergy, intellectuals and families from the northern highlands. It is a small, sobering museum, comparable to the House of Leaves in Tirana, and a short walk from the cathedral and the pedestrian street.
