Eight columns from 1817

About Kapllan Pasha Tomb

This elegant octagonal tomb was built in 1817 for Kapllan Pasha, an Ottoman ruler of Tirana. It stood beside the Sylejman Pasha Mosque, the city’s first, which was destroyed during the Second World War, and it is the only one of the cemetery’s monumental graves to survive; the pasha’s remains were later moved to Istanbul. Declared a cultural monument in 1948 and restored, it is now set within a modern building on Rruga 28 Nëntori, a few steps from Skanderbeg Square. Look for its eight carved stone columns.
