A hundred years of independence

About Independence Monument

The Independence Monument stands in Rinia Park beside the main boulevard and was unveiled on 28 November 2012 for the hundredth anniversary of Albania’s independence. The 6.5-metre sculpture by Visar Obrija and Kai Kiklas, made in Austria and weighing fifteen tons, takes the form of an open tower split into two halves: one suggests the repression and isolation the country lived through, the other freedom. It is a quick stop on a walk along the boulevard between Skanderbeg Square and Blloku.
