About Pëllumbas Cave
The Cave of Pëllumbas, or Black Cave, sits in the Skorana gorge about an hour’s walk from the village of Pëllumbas, 27 kilometres south-east of Tirana. Inside, the dark tunnel runs some 360 metres, with stalactites, stalagmites and bats; 40,000 years ago it was home to cave bears, and later to Middle Palaeolithic humans. The marked trail climbs through forest above the Erzen river, and in summer you can cool off in the pools of the canyon below. Bring a torch and good shoes.
