The Valbona valley, in Valbona Valley National Park, is broader and gentler than Theth, with guesthouses along the river below dramatic peaks of the Accursed Mountains. The classic hike over the Valbona Pass to Theth, about 1,800 metres high, takes most of a day and is best done from June to September with an early start. Combine it with the Lake Koman ferry for one of the great journeys of the Balkans. Book guesthouses ahead in summer.
