Driving in Albania: what to know
Drive defensively
About Driving in Albania: what to know
Albanians drive on the right, and many visitors drive with their national licence; check whether you also need an International Driving Permit. Tirana’s traffic is dense and assertive, so drive defensively, watch for scooters and pedestrians, and use paid car parks rather than the kerb. Main roads are good, but mountain roads to Theth or the south are narrow and winding. The Milot–Morinë motorway towards Kosovo has a toll. Keep your licence, the car documents and insurance green card with you at police checks.
Why it's on our list
- Drive on the right
- Toll on the Milot–Morinë road
- Carry your documents
