About Zvërnec Monastery
The Monastery of the Dormition of St Mary stands on Zvërnec island, the larger of two islands in the Narta Lagoon, north-west of Vlorë. A long wooden footbridge leads across the shallow water from the mainland to the island, where a small 13th-century church sits among pine and cypress trees. It is a peaceful, beautiful place, especially in the soft light of late afternoon, with herons and egrets in the shallows. Combine it with the flamingos of the lagoon and the beach nearby.
