Voskopojë, about 20 kilometres west of Korçë, was in the 18th century a great trading town of the Aromanians, with the first printing house in the Ottoman Balkans outside Constantinople, schools and many churches. Raids in 1769 and 1788 reduced it to a village. Several 18th-century churches with frescoes survive, among them St Nicholas and the Archangels Michael and Gabriel. It is a beautiful drive from Korçë through the hills; ask locally about access to the church interiors.
