Rozafa Castle crowns a rocky hill 130 metres above sea level south of Shkodër, above the rivers Buna and Drin and the great lake. The hill was settled in the Bronze Age, its first walls built by the Illyrian city of Skodra in the 4th–3rd centuries BC, though the walls you see are mostly Venetian. Legend says a young bride, Rozafa, was walled into the foundations. Walk the ramparts for the view and visit the small museum.
