Thousands of flamingos

About Narta Lagoon

The Narta Lagoon covers about 42 square kilometres of shallow water north of the Bay of Vlorë, separated from the sea by a narrow strip of dunes formed by the Vjosa river. It lies within the Vjosa Wild River National Park and is internationally important for birds: thousands of flamingos live here, and more than 30,000 birds winter on the lagoon. Bring binoculars, drive slowly along the lagoon road towards Zvërnec, and visit early morning or late afternoon for the best birdwatching.
