Muza Ime – Musine Kokalari House
Albania’s first woman writer
About Muza Ime – Musine Kokalari House
This house museum in Gjirokastër is dedicated to Musine Kokalari, born in the town in 1917 and regarded as Albania’s first woman prose writer. She spent most of her later life in prison and internal exile, and her writing was silenced for decades. The restored family home tells her story through photographs, letters and her writings. It is a moving visit and an important corner of Albanian memory. Check opening hours on its website.
