About Mes Bridge

The Mes Bridge, Ura e Mesit, spans the Kir river in the village of Mes, about five kilometres north-east of Shkodër. It was built around 1770 by Kara Mahmud Bushati, the local Ottoman pasha, in two phases: first a large central arch and three smaller ones, then a longer structure when floods showed it was needed. Its slick round stones and graceful humped arches make it one of the most beautiful bridges in Albania. Cycle out from Shkodër.
