About Lead Mosque, Shkodër

The Lead Mosque, Xhamia e Plumbit, was built in 1773 by Mehmed Pasha Bushati below Rozafa Castle and takes its name from the lead that once covered its domes. Modelled on the classical Ottoman mosques of Istanbul, it is one of the few historic mosques to survive the communist ban on religion. The meadow around it is often flooded in winter and spring, when the mosque seems to float. Visit on the way to or from the castle.
