Ismail Kadare House
The writer’s family house
About Ismail Kadare House
The family house of Ismail Kadare in Gjirokastër, rebuilt after a fire, is now a museum devoted to the writer, who was born in the town in 1936 and died in 2024. It shows the life of a traditional Gjirokastër house alongside editions of his books and photographs, and recalls Chronicle in Stone, his novel set in the wartime town. It is a short walk from the bazaar. Read the novel before your visit and the town will feel familiar.
