A church on the castle hill

About Holy Trinity Church, Berat

The Holy Trinity Church is a medieval Byzantine church standing on its own on a hill within Berat’s castle quarter, part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its cross-shaped plan with a dome, its brick and stone patterns and its pyramid-like form give it a distinctive look, mixing Byzantine and Western elements of the same period; an inscription names Andronikos Palaiologos, governor of Berat in the early 14th century. Walk down to it from the castle lanes for the view.
