Inside an Ottoman house

About Ethnographic Museum, Berat

The Ethnographic Museum fills a traditional two-storey Berat house in Mangalem, close to the road up to the castle. Its rooms show the furniture, costumes, looms, tools and kitchenware of everyday life, and the house itself, with its wooden galleries, low sofas and a well in the courtyard, is the real exhibit. It gives a good sense of how families lived behind the famous windows. Allow forty-five minutes, and combine it with a walk up to the Kala.
